Motor Insurance Organisations

As a representative of a number of driver and insurance groups, UK motor insurance organisations play a major role in tackling relevant policies and issues of motoring.

Below is a run down of the four major organisations that exist in the sector today:

The Association of British Drivers (ABI)
The ABI represents the collective interests of the UK's car insurance providers. With over 400 car insurers registered in the Association of British Drivers, it attempts to participate in debates over issues involving public policies whilst working towards improving customer service standards across the board. Between the members of the ABI they provide for 94% of the British domestic insurance market.

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA)
The BIBA is one of the leading British general insurance organisations seeking to represent and protect the needs of its insurers and customers alike. As a respected body, the BIBA offers training and guidance on regulation and business support. With over 1700 regulated insurance firms, members of the BIBA distribute up to two-thirds of all UK general insurance.

The Institute of Insurance Brokers (IIB)
Formed in 1987 as a professional organisation for over 1,000 insurance brokers across the UK, the Institute of Insurance Brokers plays a pivotal role in servicing the needs of both businesses and private individuals, making sure that insurance policies and arrangements meet the requirements of popular demand.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB)
The MIB is led by the Insurance Industry and seeks to acts as a mediator for victims in accidents with uninsured and untraced drivers to recoup damages. The MIB also maintains the UK motor insurance database to ensure that the insurance status of a vehicle is up-to-date and logged with the correct authorities.
