Basics Of Car Insurance

As a legal requirement, car insurance is a necessity and must be purchased before getting behind the wheel and hitting the open road. Not only is car insurance necessary by law, it is also crucially recommended to avoid liability when involved in an accident or breakdown. New drivers may be caught in the headlights of the plethora of car insurance deals in front of them. But in reality finding the right deal is far easier than first imagined.

There are three types of car insurance available on the market today:

Third Party

This is the minimum car insurance protection available and is invariably the cheapest cover on offer. There are clear limitations to third party car insurance as it only covers liability for damage caused to other vehicles in an accident, leaving you to foot the bill for any repairs to your own vehicle. Nevertheless, this may not be a problem for owners of older and cheaper vehicles that have minimal value.

Third Party Fire & Theft

A more extensive form of car insurance than Third Party cover, Third Party Fire & Theft covers liability for damage to third party vehicles as well as damage to your own vehicle as a result of fire and theft. The difference in cost between Third Party and Third Party Fire & Theft car insurance is minimal; therefore many drivers decide to opt for the latter for increased protection.

Comprehensive

Owners of valuable and expensive vehicles often opt for comprehensive car insurance as it also covers damage to your own car in an accident. Fully comprehensive policies include additional benefits such as breakdown cover and replacements for in-car equipment in the event of a burglary. Naturally comprehensive car insurance is the most expensive on the market, but its wrap-around protection puts drivers at ease.

Car insurance providers are available online and via telephone in order to obtain a quotation and take the next step to securing car insurance for you and your car.
